We presented the principles of organizing a team of rapid reaction to hemorrhages (PPH SWAT) in the Lublin Voievodship in the years 2002-2012, procedure modifications in three stages, what allowed for the elimination of mortality rate in mothers caused by severe obstetrical hemorrhages. Initially, changes concerned the method of surgical treatment of severe obstetrical hemorrhages, after failure of pharmacological therapy or organ injuries, with special emphasis put on methods allowing for saving the genital organ and preserving fertility. The identification of patients with placenta praevia after caesarian sections and with ingrowing placenta in the cicatrice and to neighbouring organs and transmitting them to centres of III level of perinatal care allowed for a significant reduction of risky interventions for the life of the patient in less properly equipped centres of I and II level of perinatal care.
