Introduction. The Directive of the Ministry of Health dated as of September 20, 2012 on the standards of medical proceedings while providing health benefits in the field of perinatal care for women in the period of physiologic pregnancy, physiologic delivery, childbed and care over the new born baby, indicates the possibility for carrying pregnancy and delivery of a physiologic course, and childbed and care over the new born baby by a midwife. Aim of the work. The evaluation of the pregnant women’s knowledge living in the Silesian voievodship on leading physiologic pregnancy, delivery and childbed by a midwife. Materials and methods. 70 pregnant women, living in the Silesian voievodship, were included in the survey. The research tool was an original questionnaire.Results. Pregnant women awareness in the Silesian voievodship as to the possibility of providing perinatal care by a midwife in case of pregnancy with physiologic course, physiologic delivery and childbed is insufficient. The standard of perinatal care in force for three years is not much widespread in the society and women do not know about the possibility of the physiologic pregnancy to be led by a midwife. Conclusions. It is necessary to undertake actions promoting the Directive of the Ministry of Health as to the standards of proceedings while providing health benefits in the field of perinatal care for a woman in the period of physiologic pregnancy, physiologic delivery, childbed and care over the new born baby.
