Author(s): PAWEŁ JONCZYK

Superfecundation is an extremely rare phenomenon. It occurs when the second ovum (rele-ased in the same menstrual cycle) is fertilized by sperm cells from separate sexual intercourse.Superfecundation can occur only when a woman has had sexual acts within a short period oftime from one another. The article describes the phenomenon of superfecundation as an example of multiple pregnan-cy in which people have been interested since antiquity. The paper discusses factors favoringthe occurrence of superfecundation and presents the current state of scientific knowledge onthe topic with case reports.
