Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a very frequent endocrinological pathology that affects up to 10% of women of reproductive age. Medical treatment of the disease lasts long and often does not bring desired results. Women with PCOS frequently suffer from hyperinsulinaemia and insulin resistance. They belong to a high-risk group for type 2 diabetes as well as for other pathologies of the metabolic syndrome, such as obesity, lipid disorders, and arterial hypertension. Most PCOS patients have menstrual cycles with lower number of ovulations or without ovulation. The treatment, which may be both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, depends on the current therapeutic goal. A therapeutic method must be aimed at four areas: preventing endometrial carcinoma, treating the symptoms of an excess of androgens (hirsutism, acne, hair loss), treating insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome as well as inducing ovulation
