Intrauterine balloon tamponade in the management of postpartum hemorrhage

In case of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) a logical and systematic management based on HAEMOSTASIS algorithm is recommended. When the standard conservative treatment fails, more aggressive methods including: intrauterine tamponade, B-Lynch suture, uterine artery embolization, systematic pelvic devascularization and finally – hysterectomy, are introduced. The article presents different techniques of uterine tamponade, advantages and disadvantages of these techniques, what might be helpful in choosing the most effective and safe treatment of PPH
