Fear of surgery affects practically all patients hospitalized and prepared for surgery. Severepreoperative anxiety can have a negative impact on both the anaesthesia, early post-operativeperiod as well as impair wound healing and increase the number of post-operative infections.Typically, this problem is underestimated and the assessment of anxiety before surgery is notused during routine hospital practice. Conversation with a patient before surgery and accuratepresentation of the course of the procedure and anaesthesia is an effective method of allevia-ting patient’s anxiety.
